Measurement, Calibration and Pre-Processing of Signals for Single-Ended Subscriber Line Identification

چکیده
− A measurement set-up is proposed to measure the oneport scattering parameter of a subscriber line at the Central Office. The measurements are performed in the time domain using periodic multi-sine signals. A pre-processing algorithm will deliver the impulse response of the one-port scattering parameter. It will de-noise and de-alias the impulse response and search for the first significant reflection. It will be shown that the processed impulse response of the one-port scattering parameter reveals the most important signal features, which would otherwise remain undetectable using classic time domain reflectometry.

Loop Identification and Capacity Estimation of Digital Subscriber Lines with Single Ended Line Testing
Digital subscriber lines offer the possibility to deliver broadband services over the existing telephone network. Still, beforehand subscriber loops must be tested to see whether they can support high-speed data services, and at what bit rate. From the existing measurement techniques, Single Ended Line Testing is often preferred because all necessary measurements can be performed from the centr...

Abstrac t Digital subscriber lines (DSL) offer the possibility to deliver broadband services over the existing telephone network. Yet, before deploying DSL, the subscriber loops must be tested to see whether they can support high-speed data services, and at what rate. Single-ended automatic qualification is essential for achieving low-cost deployment of DSL, since it allows loops to be qualifie...

A measurement, modelling and identification system is proposed to qualify a subscriber line with the constraint that only measurements can be conducted at the Central Office. The system uses the one-port scattering parameter as a base measurement of the loop. The time domain version of this scattering parameter will be pre-processed so that the features, which are the start, maximum and end pos...
متن کاملCalibration of a Metallic Access Network Analyzer
A calibration approach is proposed to compensate the systematic errors when the input reflection coefficient of a metallic access network cable is obtained using single port measurements from an access network analyzer. The analyzer is a versatile instrument and uses optimal cable matching and internal balancing to achieve maximum measurement resolution. The analyzer uses test-leads connected t...

In order to identify if a subscriber loop is suitable for DSL service, the transfer function of the loop has to be estimated. Several measurement techniques exist, however Single Ended Line Testing is gaining much attention lately. This method allows only measuring at the central office side and yields a reflectogram. One of the critical issues in the estimation of the transfer function from th...
